Working on Fixing coloring - New Style

Here's a look at how the book will be once re-colored.

Until Eclipse: Page 1 v2.0 by =silvereelve on deviantART

I made some prints of the image and they look beautiful, or well I think so anyway. The color looks better and I think Edward has a more Twilight-esque skin tone.

I'm going to print a small number of books once I'm done, from what I can figure as long as I 1.Make no profit and 2.Make so few I fly under the radar, I should be okay. I'll take pre-orders at that time if I decide to do so.

Process

Just a quick look at how the cover image was done.

And then it was named

For a while I was calling the book the Twilight Storybook and I wasn't entirely happy with that. I typed the phrase and looked at it sitting on the splash page. I hated it. Then I changed it to The Twilight I hate my title Storybook and left it at that for a little while.

The name of any book is important. That's what everyone is going to use to refer to it and I felt that my original title was incredibly boring.

The new title just kinda hit me. I was walking into the kitchen and thinking and the phrase "Until Eclipse" sprang to mind. And I thought "Hey that'd be a great title." Not only does it say what it means to me but also when the book takes place.

Progress on the book is 85% and almost finished.

How the Storybook was born

It's been a long road definitely. Not as long as some. ::Points to the still in process fma book:: But long none the less. I guess the real reason I wanted to do the book was because it's been a while since I fell in love with a novel. Usually I read them and move on to the next.

That, however, wasn't the case with this book. The characters kinda get into your head and soon it was the most important thing on my drawing board. I wanted to give something back and in my own way contribute to the wonderful characters and stories.

The first story I came up with was the Hide and Seek story. But I decided I also wanted to do a storybook, because storybooks are fun. I ended up making a lot of changes since I started, but I'm not going to ruin the story just yet, so I'm not going to tell you what they are.

I want to share a little about what I do when I start a book. Starting books is easy.

First I have to decide how many pages a book is going to be and once I've come up with that, I start on the script outline. Once I've got that done I write the actual script and send it to my proofreader while I work on the art.

I print out a couple of layout sheets and begin sketching thumbnails page by page. I usually know what I want to see before I start.

After I've finished the thumbs and decided on what style it's going to be in, I begin penciling the book, one page at a time. I try to get a few done in a sitting, that way I can keep my rhythm. There are times I will switch from penciling to coloring and back, just to break the monotony and to see how things are looking. If something doesn't look as good in full pencils as it does in the thumbnails, I go back to the script and re-read the page and try to come up with a different composition.

Kinda simple, but it works for me.

Twilight Update

A quick look at everything that I've been working on ad some of the things I've been thinking while doing them. I wanted to get the Twilight Storybook finished before the third book comes out, which means I have a little over a month. That being the case I've put the ever illusive fma book aside for a short while. The twilight book is half way done with half the pages colored and set up, which makes me happy.

The reason I chose the style I did instead of something less cartoony is for two reasons. The first being I didn't want to alienate people who hate anime style and the second because it is a story book.
